In Super Bowl XLIII, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Patrick caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kurt Warner in the second quarter.
After four seasons at Duke University where Patrick appeared in 31 games with 79 catches for 781 yards and two touchdowns, he transferred to the University of Delaware for his final college season in 2006. He went on to lead Division I-AA tight ends in receiving with 64 catches for 639 yards, six touchdowns, and was named a first-team All-America. As a senior at Delaware he was rated the best tight end prospect in the NCAA Division 1-AA ranks by The NFL Draft Report, was an All-Atlantic Ten Conference first-team pick, and led all Division 1-AA tight ends in receptions and yardage per game. He earned a degree in African American Studies from Duke.
