Ellis Hobbs is a reliable cornerback and explosive kick returner. During his career he has had a total of three kickoff return touchdowns. In 2007 he set an NFL record by returning a kickoff 108 yards for a touchdown which earned him NFL Special Teams player of the week. During his 2005 rookie season with New England, he earned Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie Team honors after finishing 2nd among all NFL rookies and tying for the team lead with three INTs.
Hobbs was just seven credits short of graduating when he entered the NFL, and in 2009 he completed his degree and graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in art and design. At Iowa State he had 209 tackles, two sacks, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, and 29 pass deflections. He earned All-Big 12 Conference first-team honors as a senior. Hobbs also earned the Academic Athlete of the Year Award three times and was a finalist for Christian Athlete of the Year at ISU.
Hobbs is huge supporter of the Kids Café Program at the Chelsea, Massachusetts Boys and Girls Club. Each year he hosts the annual “Ellis Hobbs Invitational” track event at his alma mater DeSoto High School during the off season. He also will be hosting a new event at DeSoto called the “Eagle Olympics,” which will be similar to the Special Olympics. All the proceeds from each event go directly to the high school. He is married and has two children.
