Pro Career:
Slaton joined the Dolphins after spending his first four seasons with the Houston Texans (2008-11) … During that time he rushed for 1,824 yards and 12 touchdowns and has caught 98 passes for 811 yards and five touchdowns … Set a Texans franchise single-season rookie rushing record with 1,282 yards, which also led all rookie running backs, in 2008 … Also had five career 100-yard games … Originally selected by the Texans in third round (89th pick overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.
Steve Slaton is a speedy young runner who possesses a tremendous burst and surprising strength. During the 2008 season he also was nominated for Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year and received the NFL’s honor as December’s Offensive Rookie of the month.
College Career:
Slaton ran for 3,923 yards during his career at West Virginia and ranked third on the school’s all-time record list. He set the WVU career record for 50 rushing touchdowns and single handily scoring six touchdowns in one game. Slaton also finished fourth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy, was a Maxwell Award semi-finalist, and a finalist for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back. He majored in athletic coaching education.
Personal:
Slaton received All-Conference honors in all four seasons and All-State accolades as a junior and senior at, Cornwell-Egan Catholic High School. He rushed for more than 6,000 career yards and 73 touchdowns during his high school career. Currently during his off seasons, he hosts the Steve Slaton Football Camp. At the camp he provides young hopefuls with various skills, motivation, and leadership to show what it takes to become a NFL Pro.
